Past events connected to the project
October 22, the Centre for Femnist Research in collaboration with Goldsmiths Press hosted a book launch for Many Splendored Things: Thinking Sex and Play by Susanna Paasonen at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
September 21, 2018, we held a one-day workshop on print porn with a star appearance from Professor Will Straw (McGill University), with additional presentations from Dr. Laura Saarenmaa, Dr. Mari Pajala, Dr. Daniel Cardoso and Susanna Paasonen.
August 2018, the research project participated at the Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference in Shanghai with two workshops focusing on sex, play and media, with an additional contribution from Jenny Sundén.
June 13-15, 2018, the project held a research and writing retreat, with guest participants from University of Tampere. As part of this, some of the project members didarchival research on Finnish print pornography, with projects connected to the (brief) history of gay porn publishing of the 1980s and the fact-based sex magazines of the 1970s.
Professor Mariana Baltar (Fluminense Federal University, Brazil) visited us on May 31 with a IIPC debate lecture, Porn Attractions: Excess and Carnal Resonance as Expressive of Dissident Bodies and Pleasures and with plans of future collaborations.
